20 DIY Projects That Will Make You Lose Faith In Humanity

DIY Projects can save us time and money. For instance, rather than buying a new AC for $200, you can put ice in a bucket and have a fan blow cool air on you. But these DIY projects are less than necessary, and will surely have you asking yourself what is really going on. Here are the dumbest DIY projects this week.

1.) Massive Air Pods Case

A person is holding a white device with a handle, possibly a household appliance. The device is placed on a cluttered bed with various clothes around it. The floor below shows part of a foot wearing a sandal.

Why carry around a case that you can fit in your pocket when you can carry a case around the size of a backpack?

2.) Art Work For Sale

A gold-framed display filled with various red Solo cups arranged in an abstract manner is being sold for $400. Below the image is a message prompt saying, "Hi Bumpy, is this still available?" with a "Send" button.

DIY art is what you can call this. It seems that Bumpy just threw a bunch of solo cups into a case and is charging $400 for it.

3.) Open Concept

A cozy room features wooden flooring, light blue walls, and a brown leather recliner next to a white floor lamp. A half-door leads to an adjacent space. Framed pictures decorate the walls, and a ceiling light hangs above. A blue door is seen in the background.

Here you can see that this person wanted to open up the room a little bit, so they cut their wall in half.

4.) Snack Time

A hand holding a small, amber-colored prescription bottle filled with cashew nuts instead of medication. A keyboard and part of a desk are visible in the background.

This person made a fantastic use out of an old prescription bottle. You can fit a handful of nuts in there!

5.) AC Gone Wrong

An indoor air conditioning unit installed on a wall with its corresponding outdoor compressor unit positioned on a shelf directly below it. Both units are connected by insulated refrigerant pipes.

As you can see, this AC is backwards. The comment was “My AC has been on for days but my house keeps getting warmer.” That is because that big thing is the outdoor unit or condenser.

6.) Foam Will Hold It Together

A basement with a cracked and bulging concrete wall, showing signs of structural damage. The crack has been filled with an unidentified material. There is a small window near the ceiling and some pipes running along the wall. A red extinguisher sits on the window ledge.

These people didn’t want to hire a contractor to fix the foundation, so they just threw some spray foam in the cracks. That should hold up.

7.) DIY Tire Roofing

A collage of three images showing a close-up of a roof covered in overlapping shingles made from recycled black tires. The shingles resemble fish scales and are set against a backdrop of green foliage.

Why spend the money on shingles if you have a bunch of old tires laying around? These people stapled a bunch of cut up tires to their roof to keep themselves dry.

8.) Breaker Finder

A homemade electrical device labeled "Breaker Finder" shows a three-pronged plug spliced into a single wire. The wire is capped with a yellow wire nut. The device is placed on a stained and worn wooden surface.

Plugging this “breaker finder” in will actually just end up tripping your breaker. So, technically you’ll blow your fuse, but you’ll also know which breaker that outlet leads to.

9.) Heavy Duty Awning

Two individuals are in an outdoor yard. One person stands with arms outstretched next to a makeshift blue tarp canopy, while the other sits on a chair underneath it, appearing thoughtful. Surrounding them are various garden tools and a plant.

Some awnings that attach to the house cost over five thousand dollars! You could get the same effect with a $50 tarp on amazon and some string.

10.) No More Clogs

A toilet with water flushing, showing black bars across the bowl. The bars are designed to act as a barrier, preventing objects from falling into the toilet. The image also features a logo in the top right corner.

This dookie grate of knives will slice up your business so it’s easier going down the toilet! You can rest easy plungers.

11.) Shingles Shower

A small bathroom with a shower-tub combination. The shower walls are covered in brown shingles above a tiled lower section. Various toiletries are on the edge of the tub and sink. A shower curtain with a light pattern hangs partially open.

Shingles like this are used for roofs to protect houses from rain. So, you could use them in your shower, but it doesn’t look very pleasing to the eye.

12.) Toilet Scale

Two-part image: Left side shows a child's hands on a digital scale integrated into a teal toilet seat. Right side is a close-up of the scale's display showing a weight of 78.

Here we have a toilet seat that doubles as a scale. You can do your business and find out your weight! This doesn’t make much sense though because you would have to put all your weight on the seat. Stick to the regular scales folks.

13.) Sheep-Dog Car

A car parked on a street that is entirely covered with shaggy, beige carpeting. The headlights and wheels are visible, and the car door is open. Trees and a wooden fence are in the background. The car has an unusual, furry appearance due to the carpeting.

This is a car that was covered in a sheep dog costume from “Dumb and Dumber”. It’s cool if you love the movie and all, but you’ve ruined your car for sure.

14.) Cow Skull Art

A collage showcasing an abstract art piece with vibrant swirls of blue, purple, and white colors. The main image on the left shows the piece hanging on a wall, and three smaller images on the right display different angles of the artwork on a wooden floor.

What do you do if you find a dead cow carcass laying around? Take the skull and decorate it of course!

15.) Boat Pond

A red boat has been converted into a small backyard fountain, filled with water and a fountain jet spraying water upward. The boat is situated beside a brick building, with fencing and greenery in the background.

You shouldn’t settle for just a boring old boat or a boring pond, make them both out of the same thing.

16.) Garden Hose Shower

A showerhead pipe without a showerhead attached. The pipe is extended from the tiled wall, and there is a valve or adapter connected to the end of the pipe where the showerhead would typically be fixed. The wall tiles are creamy beige with a diamond-pattern accent.
u/dysono/via reddit

This genius was complaining about their water not having pressure in their shower. Don’t go buy a new shower head, just use your garden hose!

17.) Hardwood Table

A large tree stump is elevated and secured between wooden supports, standing on a gravel surface. In the background, there is a pile of chopped firewood and a white lattice fence, with green foliage visible beyond. A blue-marked cardboard box is to the left.
u/binjaninja1/via reddit

Here we have a premium, hardwood table that could sell for thousands. Just kidding, this is a few planks nailed to a log.

18.) Make Room For Activities

A compact living space with an unusual loft bed design elevated on wooden supports over a stairway. The room features light-colored walls, a kitchenette with light wood cabinets, a microwave, and a skylight. A black office chair is in the foreground.
u/Machinefun/via reddit

Why waste room having a safe bed when you can DIY it over the stairs? I hope that thing is secure.

19.) Spray Foam Fixes Foundations

A dimly lit space with an exposed concrete wall, featuring an irregular and lumpy patch of orange foam insulation applied over a pipe. The foam extends along the wall and ceiling junction, with some loose debris visible on the dirt-covered floor below.
u/dmas1638/via reddit

Yet again we have a foundation fixed by spray foam. The user claimed they hired a contractor to fix their foundation and this was his best possible solution to their problem.

20.) Followed The Instructions To The T

Three images show the process of crafting a metal frame. The top image is a hand-drawn sketch of a rectangular frame with dimensions of 60 cm by 25 cm. The bottom two images depict the assembled frame with hooked metal attachments, one of which is circled in red.

This here is prime craftsmanship. Whether the person actually believed this is how the table was built is a mystery to us all.
